Product Description

This returning Boomerang is made from an Australian Native Tree, the grain of which ensures strength and beauty. A returning Boomerang is designed to travel in an elliptical path so that it returns to the thrower.Traditionally, Aborigines used Boomerangs primarily for sport and recreation. They were also used as decoy birds of prey, thrown above birds in grass to frighten them out so they could be hunted.

The oldest Australian Aboriginal Boomerangs found are ten thousand years old and they are still used today as sporting items.  There are many different types of throwing competitions involving accuracy of return, speed and endurance. There is uncertainty over how the returning boomerang was invented but there is speculation that it was developed from a flattened throwing stick. Now considered an Australian Icon, this tool still fascinates people today.

Measures 32 cm long. Artwork may differ from picture.
